In the summer of 2000 I worked with a group of artists resisting
gentrification in San Francisco's Mission district. Dancers
Group Studio, a dance studio for over 30 years was being evicted
from their space. As part of the direct action that took place
on the street outside the building I created an installation
called Grave Sight, which was a huge eye sculpted in dirt.
Passersby were invited to write memories or a eulogy about
the studio and then plant them in the eye as a symbolic gesture.
